A new game is started whenever the player selects æNew GameÆ from the menu, or clicks on the screen when all the cards are face-down. As soon as play starts, the computer deals each player four cards, and the player begins his turn.
To play a card, the player merely needs to click on one of the cards in his hand and drag it to discard pile to the left of the draw pile.
Number cards add to the running total (shown in the upper left of the screen). The object is to not allow that total to get to 99 while you're holding it, while trying to force other players to go over that amount. Unlike the other number cards, the 'minus ten' card reduces the running total by ten points.
A 'hold' card doesn't change the running score, and just passes play along to the next player.
The double play card forces the next player to take two turns, dramatically increasing his risk of going over 99 points. The first card the victim plays cannot also be a double play.
The reverse card switches the direction of play, from clockwise to counter-clockwise and vice-versa. It also can act as a defense from the 'Double Play' card, reversing the effects of a double play back upon the previous player!
The O'No card is a trap, and cannot be played. If a player is stuck with this card in his hand, it's dead weight that cannot be discarded. If he's unlucky enough to have all four O'No 99 cards, then his hand is over.
If, though, the O'No 99 Card Option rule is in place (only with registered versions), then this card can act as a 'Hold' card whenever the running score is divisible by zero.
A hand is over if a player pushes the running score over 99 points, or if he has all four O'No 99 cards in his hand.
In 'token' play, one token is removed from the losing player. If a player loses and has no tokens remaining, then he is eliminated.
In the 'elimination by score' option, available in the registered version of the game, the end of the hand causes every player to increase their personal scores.
The player that went over 99 in the running score receives 25 points.
Number cards are worth their face value.
O'No 99 cards are worth 20 points..
Hold, Reverse, and Double Play cards are worth 15 points.
Players are eliminated from play once they personally score over 500 points. The game ends when all but one or all players are over 500 points. The lowest personal score wins the game.
